Orange Two Stroke

The Orange Two Stroke is a dual-parametric EQ and clean boost. Two frequency bands with up to 18dB of cut or boost each, an internal charge pump running the circuit at 18V, and the result is a whisper-quiet pedal that can transparently lift solos, reshape your amp’s voice, or do both at once.

What makes it genuinely useful is that you pick the exact frequency center before deciding how much to push or pull. That makes it as practical for problem-solving a dark-sounding guitar as it is for dialing in a consistent solo boost.

Controls

The HI and LO knobs are cut or boost controls, noon is neutral. The frequency selectors set the band center: HI covers 850Hz to 8.2kHz, LO covers 120Hz to 1.2kHz. OIL adds up to 12dB of clean boost; fully counter-clockwise is unity gain, so you can run the EQ without touching your volume.

In the demo above I’ve set up sweeps for the Oil knob (clean boost alone, both EQ bands flat), the Hi band frequency sweep at full boost and at full cut, and the same pair for the Lo band. That way you can hear what each band does across its full range rather than at one fixed point.

How It Sounds

Set both EQ bands to noon and OIL to zero and the Two Stroke is completely transparent. The internal 18V charge pump is where the headroom comes from: there’s no compression or crunch no matter how hard you push it.

The four main presets show the range. Stoner Boost dials in both bands and cranks OIL, targeting low-mids for a dense shove into the amp. Smooth Honk rolls off the HI band and boosts the LO band with no OIL, producing a warm, honky shape without a volume jump. Treble Boost lifts the HI band, dials back the LO band, and maxes OIL for a bright clean lift. Pultec Trick cuts the HI band entirely while boosting the LO band hard, borrowing the studio move of adding weight and carving space in the same pass.

Two Stroke vs QBoost

The Stone Deaf FX QBoost is a natural comparison: it’s also a parametric frequency booster on this site. The QBoost has a single band covering 35Hz to 6kHz and a vintage/modern switch that adds some preamp crunch in modern mode. The Two Stroke has no overdrive character at all and two independent bands instead of one, so you can boost the low-mids and cut the highs simultaneously, or run one band as a solo boost and the other as a room-correction EQ. The QBoost earns its place if you want one targeted push with the option of mild grit. The Two Stroke is the pick if you need transparent, dual-band tone surgery.

Who It’s For

This is a utility pedal first. It’s for players who use it the same way a recording engineer uses a parametric EQ: not to color their tone, but to correct or focus it. A darker single-coil guitar in front of a bright amp, a guitar that vanishes in a band mix, a rig that needs a lift for solos without a volume cliff when you turn it back off: the Two Stroke handles all of that quietly and precisely.

The honest caveat is that it won’t add anything to your sound that wasn’t already there. If you’re after character, warmth, or harmonic texture, look at an overdrive or a dirty boost instead. If you want transparent boost and precise EQ in one compact box, this is a seriously good tool.
