Echo Fix started as a repair shop for Roland Space Echo and Echoplex tape machines, so building gear around real physical mechanisms is in their DNA. The EF-P2 carries that philosophy into pedal format: a genuine three-spring reverb tank, a 100% analog signal path, and a little illuminated viewing window so you can actually see the springs doing their thing. That last detail is delightfully nerdy, and I love it.
This is a real spring reverb. Not a digital model, not a convolution sample. If you want that specific mechanical drip and wobble, there is no faking it with an algorithm, and the EF-P2 does not try to.
The panel runs left to right: Spring Drive, Bass, Treble, and Reverb Volume. Spring Drive sets how hard the signal hits the spring tank, which directly determines how saturated and wobbly the reverb tail becomes. Bass and Treble form a two-band EQ that shapes the reverb tail independently from the dry signal, useful for taming low-end bloom or brightening a dark setup. Reverb Volume controls the wet level.
There are two footswitches: reverb bypass and dry signal mute, each with its own LED. With the dry signal cut, the EF-P2 becomes a reverb-only instrument, great for letting a chord dissolve into pure spring wash. In the demo above I’ve set up sweeps for Spring Drive, Bass, and Treble so you can hear each control across its full range.
Spring Rumble (Spring Drive at 8, Bass at 8, Treble at 3) is where the EF-P2 gets most obviously itself: dark, low-slung, with that characteristic spring wobble. Thick and physical rather than ethereal. Subtle Verb (Spring Drive at 2, Treble at 7) is the opposite: a restrained, slightly bright tail that sits politely under the dry signal without calling attention to itself. The Dynamic Whip preset (Treble at 10, Reverb Volume at 10) shows the brighter, splashier side. The Reverb Only preset engages the dry mute, giving you nothing but spring signal, which works beautifully for swells.
I’m focusing this demo on running into an already driven amp. While I’m certainly no Jack White, I think the EF-P2 with some juice on the amp gets you well inside the ballpark of that sound.
The Catalinbread Topanga emulates the vintage Fender 6G15 outboard spring reverb using a discrete preamp. It sounds excellent and has a specific surf-vintage character, and it fits in a much smaller enclosure. The EF-P2 just uses an actual three-spring tank. That distinction is audible: the Topanga is consistent and polished; the EF-P2 has a slightly less predictable quality, in the best sense, where the springs react to what you feed them. The EF-P2 also adds a two-band EQ on the reverb signal and a dry mute footswitch. If you want a refined, compact spring sound, the Topanga is the one. If you want the real mechanical thing with more tonal shaping on tap, the EF-P2 earns its larger footprint.
Surf, rockabilly, and classic rock players are the natural fit, but the two-band EQ and dry mute make it more versatile than most spring units. Echo Fix also notes it works as a studio outboard unit and accepts input from synths. If you need ambient pads, long shimmer trails, or algorithmic room textures, this is not the tool. It is a spring reverb. It sounds like one, and that is exactly the point.
