The Pardner Fuzz by Old Blood Noise Endeavors goes beyond the standard ways of smashing your sound. It combines a switchable fuzz voice with a 2-band EQ, a filter section, and a dedicated FX loop called Lasso, all independently footswitchable. The sum of those parts gives you a lot of textures to explore, and each one would be worth putting into its own pedal.
Reading the panel from left to right across the top row: Bass, Treble, and Fuzz. Below those, Filter and Intensity sit side by side. On the left column, Lasso Vol and Lasso Gain control the overdrive loop section. Two toggle switches on the right handle mode (Synthy or Fuzzy) and Lasso order (Lasso First, Parallel, or Fuzz First). The left stomp switch engages the Lasso circuit; the right stomp switch is the main bypass.
In the demo above I’ve set up sweeps for the mode toggle (Synthy versus Fuzzy), the Filter knob, the Intensity knob, and the Lasso order toggle, so you can hear exactly what each one does to the same riff.
The Synthy mode produces resonant, warbling tones that feel more like a synthesizer than a guitar. The Filthy Synth preset captures this well: mode set to Synthy, fuzz at 8, intensity at 7, and filter at 4. The Fuzzy mode is a heavier, more conventional fuzz character. Fat Fuzz shows that side with bass cranked to 10 and fuzz at 8 in Fuzzy mode, with the Filter knob open at 8 for a thicker voice.
The Lasso circuit, when nothing is plugged into its send/return jacks, acts as a dirty boost. It sounds to me like a kind of gritty treble booster. The Lasso Boost preset has Lasso Gain at 10 and Lasso Vol at 6, stacked in front of a Fuzzy-mode fuzz. You can also patch an external effect into the Lasso loop: the Delay Lasso preset routes a Boss DM-2W through it in Synthy mode, the Warble Lasso drops in a Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water for a wobbling texture, and the Glitch Lasso sends things through a Chase Bliss Audio Mood for outright strangeness. The Lasso order sweep demonstrates what changes when you flip between Lasso First, Parallel, and Fuzz First routing.
The Alpha Haunt is the natural OBNE sibling to consider. Where the Alpha Haunt is a silicon gated fuzz focused on velcro textures, with a 3-band EQ, a Gate knob, a Bias toggle, and a blendable Enhance circuit, the Pardner is built around something structurally different: the Lasso effects loop. The Alpha Haunt gives you more control over one fuzz voice with very detailed gain staging. The Pardner gives you two distinct voices, an overdrive circuit, and the ability to route external pedals through the Lasso loop, which makes it less of a precision fuzz tool and more of a sound design platform. If you want a focused, highly tweakable gated fuzz, the Alpha Haunt is the clearer choice. If you want a fuzz that can morph into synth textures and absorb other pedals into its signal path, the Pardner is the one.
Heavy psych, shoegaze, and experimental players are the obvious audience. The Synthy mode and Lasso loop open up textures that go well past what a standard fuzz can do. Volume-knob players who like to use one pedal as a whole signal stage will find a lot here. The honest caveat: the Pardner rewards deliberate patch-cable experimentation, and if you just want a simple, plug-in-and-play fuzz, the control set can feel like overkill. Players who need a clean, straightforward gated fuzz without the extra routing options will be better served elsewhere.
