The Alpha Haunt by Old Blood Noise Endeavors is the expanded version of the Haunt Fuzz: a silicon high-gain gated fuzz that layers on a 3-band EQ, a parallel Enhance boost, and three extra toggle switches. The result is a gated, velcro-textured fuzz that you can sculpt pretty precisely to fit any rig, from a tight and squeezed splat to a loose, grinding wall of sound.
I was very drawn to the Haunt and Alpha Haunt because of its gated texture. Because, as you might know, I love velcro fuzz. With all the extra EQ and gain staging controls, it’s very easy to find a sound that fits your taste and setup.
The panel splits into three zones. On the left: Fuzz (gain), Gate (compression and fuzz amount), and Tone (main voice). In the center: three horizontal toggles across the top (Bias, Distortion, LPF), followed by three vertical EQ sliders (Low, Mid, High). On the right: Fuzz Vol (the fuzz section’s output level), Master (overall volume), and Enhance (a blendable boost that folds in unprocessed signal in parallel with the fuzz).
The three toggles are where the character shifts. The Bias toggle changes the gating character of the fuzz. The Distortion toggle sets the fuzz range. The LPF toggle adjusts the tone range. In the demo above I’ve set up sweeps for the Fuzz, Gate, Enhance, Bias, Distortion, and LPF controls, so you can hear exactly what each one does to the same riff.
I’m especially a fan of the 3-band EQ. With the Mid slider, you can dial in a characterful midrange that cuts through a mix, boost Low for extra weight, or pull High back to tame the top end.
No matter how you set the fuzz controls, the texture always seems satisfyingly velcro-y. Squeezed Fuzz in the demo demonstrates this with Gate at 7 and a noticeable compression on the attack. Classic Velcro Fuzz pushes Fuzz to 8 and Fuzz Vol to 10 for a more open, ripping sound. Happy Buzzing sets Gate to 0 entirely, which loosens the gating and lets the fuzz breathe and buzz more freely. Mids and Character cranks Enhance to 10 and Mid to 10, which shows just how much the parallel boost and the EQ can reshape the overall voice without touching the core fuzz sound.
The range from smooth overdrive to crumbling gated fuzz is genuinely wide here. The Gate knob sweep in the demo goes from fully open to hard gating, which is the single most dramatic control on the board.
Both are OBNE fuzzes with more than the usual controls, but they approach the brief differently. The Pardner Fuzz centers on its Lasso FX loop: an overdriven effects loop you can run in series or parallel with the fuzz, switchable between a synthy and a fuzzy voice. Its main appeal is routing flexibility and experimental texture.
The Alpha Haunt does not have an FX loop or a synth mode. What it has instead is deeper gain staging, a dedicated 3-band EQ, and the Enhance circuit for blending in the clean signal. If you want to shape a gated velcro fuzz sound with precision and you plan to stack it with existing pedals rather than routing effects through it, the Alpha Haunt is the better fit. If the Lasso loop concept is the draw, the Pardner is the one to look at.

Players who specifically want a gated, velcro-style fuzz with serious tonal control get the most out of this. The 3-band EQ and Enhance knob make it easier to dial in than a simpler gated fuzz, so it works well if you’re running a bright amp or a dark amp and need to compensate. The velcro texture suits stoner, psych, garage, and noise rock well.
If your fuzz ideal is smooth, warm, and sustained rather than spitty and gated, the Alpha Haunt is not the right tool. And if you want one pedal to cover a lot of different fuzz characters without committing to the velcro sound, the routing flexibility of the Pardner may be more useful.
