I’m excited to introduce you to the Mosrawr, a fuzz pedal that RhPf Electronics, my wife Claudi (@sketchypedals) and I designed together. Claudi did the artwork, juxtaposing the fierce nature of the fuzz with her whimsical style that gives the pedal the feeling of having had too much cotton candy at the fair. Thomas at RhPf Electronics handled the circuit, using the Mosghoul as a starting point and reworking it heavily until it had its own texture and feel. The whole thing came together over Thomas sending me prototypes to try, then us talking through frequency response and gain staging until we found the sweet spot between musicality and lo-fi aggression.
The panel runs five knobs in a diamond around the footswitch. Rawr sits top left and is the gain control, driving the pedal from a gritty edge into full saturation. Level, top right, sets the output. Bite is the mid control in the middle of the panel, described by RhPf as sitting at the heart of the circuit to shape how the gain responds to your playing. Low and Hi round out the bottom corners, EQ controls that go, in RhPf’s words, from sticky grind to wide-open sludge. In the demo above I’ve set up sweeps for Rawr, Low and Hi, so you can hear each one working on its own before you start stacking them.
The five presets map out how differently this circuit can sit. Stoner Mids keeps everything in the middle of its range, a balanced, roaring fuzz with Bite pushed to 7 for that midrange surge. Glitch Fest pulls Rawr way back to 1.5 while maxing Low and Bite, which turns the gain down but opens the low end and mids into a splattery, unstable texture. Pawn Shop Drive keeps the gain moderate but rolls Low, Bite and Hi all the way down to 2, giving a tighter, more compressed drive tone rather than a wall of fuzz. Dying Amp echoes Glitch Fest’s low Rawr setting but tames the top with Hi at 8 and Bite at 4, landing on a wheezy, broken-speaker character. Faux Octave maxes Rawr with Bite rolled to 1, which thins out the mids enough to expose upper harmonics that read almost like an octave effect. Roll back your guitar’s volume and the Mosrawr cleans up into a chunky, gated overdrive; dig in and it roars with thick, sustaining fuzz while keeping the low end from turning to mud.
The ZVEX Fuzz Factory is the reference point for gated, velcro fuzz, built around two germanium transistors and a Gate control that can push it into full instability and self-oscillation. The Mosrawr chases a similar torn, gated texture but gets there through a proprietary MOSFET circuit with a dedicated mid control instead of a gate knob, so the gating and cleanup come from how you set Rawr and play dynamics rather than from a dedicated instability control. The Fuzz Factory can wander into oscillating, synth-like chaos that’s a voice of its own; the Mosrawr stays closer to a playable, midrange-forward roar built for riffing rather than noise experiments.
This is a pedal for garage rock, stoner rock and QOTSA-style desert riffing, anywhere a velcro-textured fuzz with real midrange push earns its keep. It stacks well with other drives too, working either as a foundation fuzz or a final stage on top of something else. If you want a smooth, scooped, wall-of-fuzz voice, this isn’t it; the Mosrawr is built around grit and midrange rather than scoop.
