Instead of hitting you with a single clipping character like most drives, RhPf Electronics built this around a 100 percent original MOSFET circuit, hand built in Basel, Switzerland, that gradually shapes how your signal breaks up. The result is something that feels more like pushing a good amp harder rather than switching on a distortion box.
Controls
The panel keeps it simple: Drive and Level sit up top, with smaller Bass and Treble knobs below. Drive takes you from clean lift to organic saturation, and Level sets your output volume. The control layout breaks convention in a useful way, though: RhPf describes the Bass and Treble knobs as shaping both gain and feel, not just tone. Cranking the Bass gives you loose, saggy breakup without losing definition, while pushing the Treble adds harmonic complexity and presence without getting harsh. How It Sounds
I appreciate how predictable this pedal is when stacking. Whether I’m pushing it with another drive or using it to slam the front end of an amp, it maintains its composure and doesn’t add unwanted compression or noise. Fat Drive (Drive at 7, Bass maxed, Treble at 7) leans into that loose low-end saturation, while Cutting Sludge (Drive at 10, Treble maxed) pushes the harmonic complexity into more aggressive territory. Gentle Fizz keeps Drive at 4 for an edge-of-breakup character, and Mid Heavy zeroes out both Bass and Treble at full Drive to show how much midrange the circuit holds onto even with the tone controls stripped back. The touch sensitivity is genuinely impressive: backing off the guitar volume cleans it up naturally, and the way it responds to pick attack reminds me more of a cranked Princeton than a typical overdrive circuit.
Mosphoros vs Kavun MOS Drive
The Drunk Beaver Kavun MOS Drive is another MOSFET-based drive with an unconventional EQ approach, so it’s a natural cross-shop. The Kavun runs a discrete MOSFET op-amp with asymmetrical germanium and MOS clipping plus a full three-band passive EQ, and it can get into grinding, saturated lead territory with a lot of harmonic complexity. The Mosphoros is the more restrained of the two: its Bass and Treble controls shape gain and feel rather than offering a full amp-style tone stack, and the whole circuit stays closer to an amp being pushed harder than a dedicated distortion voice. If you want a wider gain range with a distinct, harmonically dense personality, the Kavun covers more ground. If you want a drive that stays composed, clean up nicely with your guitar’s volume knob, and reads as an extension of your amp rather than a new voice on top of it, the Mosphoros is the one.
Who It’s For
This is a strong pick for players who rely on their hands rather than their pedalboard to shape dynamics. It handles edge-of-breakup rhythm work through to saturated leads without losing definition, and it stacks predictably with other drives or into an already-pushed amp front end. It’s not trying to emulate a specific amp or vintage circuit; it’s its own thing, and that Swiss build quality shows in how musical and usable it stays across its whole gain range. If you want a pedal with a wide, dramatic tonal shift built in, look elsewhere; this one rewards touch and guitar volume control more than knob-twisting.
