The Twin Sonic MKII from OKKO FX is one of those pedals that solves a real problem: you want two distinct overdrive voices that genuinely complement each other, without carrying two separate boxes. It runs two independent circuits side by side, a bold and grainy blue channel and a smoother red channel, with each one fully controllable and both stackable in either order.
I’ve been reaching for this whenever I want a warm, punchy amp-like breakup that I can push into heavier territory on demand. The breakup feel is particularly satisfying, and the two sides are voiced to work as a team without fighting each other.
Controls
Each channel has four knobs in the same layout. On the left side, Gain and Level sit in the top row, with Voice and Hi-Cut below. A three-position Mode toggle sits between them. The right side mirrors this layout exactly with its own Gain, Level, Voice, Hi-Cut and Mode. Two footswitches at the bottom engage each channel independently, with separate LEDs.
Voice is the defining control on both sides. It shifts the whole EQ character from wide and full at the low end of the range to tight and mid-focused at the top. It’s not a simple tone knob but a genuine voicing change, and it sounds different on each channel because the underlying circuits are different. Hi-Cut handles the treble and presence, and Mode adjusts the amount of bass going into each circuit.
In the demo above I’ve set up sweeps for Gain (Blue), Voice (Blue), Hi-Cut (Blue) and Mode (Blue), so you can hear what each one does across its full range before touching any preset.
How It Sounds
The blue channel earns its description as a cranked vintage amp in a box. It’s open, a bit grainy, and very alive to how hard you pick. Roll your guitar’s volume back and it cleans up fast without going dull. The red channel is smoother and more transparent, perfect for adding harmonics and presence on top of the blue side, though it works just as well solo as a clean-ish boost into a driven amp.
The four presets map the range. Preamp with Boost uses the red side as a push into a medium-gain blue, a classic preamp-into-power-section dynamic. Stacked Mediums runs both channels at matching medium gain with the Voice knobs wide open, which gets surprisingly thick. Both on Eleven maxes both Gain knobs and tightens the Voice on the blue side, landing in vintage distortion territory bordering on fuzz. Twin Screamer backs both Gain knobs down for a chimey, edge-of-breakup stacked sound.
Twin Sonic MKII vs Diablo Dual
OKKO’s own Diablo Dual is the natural comparison because it also gives you two channels in one box and also runs on an internally boosted supply. The Diablo Dual is built around a different set of parameters: DYN, FEED, BODY and TONE rather than Gain, Level, Voice, Hi-Cut and Mode. That makes it a more surgical tool for shaping the internal dynamics and low-end character of one core overdrive voice, with a second channel for level and gain switching. The Twin Sonic MKII is more about two entirely different voiced circuits that stack into each other. If you want one great overdrive that you can sculpt deeply, the Diablo Dual is the call. If you want two complementary voices that build from clean boost all the way to fuzz-adjacent distortion, the Twin Sonic is the stronger choice.
Who It’s For
This suits players who want a single box to cover clean boost, medium overdrive and heavy crunch. It rewards guitarists who dial their tone from the guitar’s volume knob, since both circuits clean up well. It works across classic rock, blues rock and heavier indie, anywhere an amp-in-a-box character is the goal. If smooth and polished is the priority, the blue channel’s graininess takes some getting used to. But for bold, dynamic and versatile, it delivers.
